I'm back! I haven't written in a while, but that's because I've been checking out other blogs, and feeling rather inadequate! How do people get such snazzy backgrounds, and how do they manage to upload photos?! I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to do things like that!

I decided to try.

Messed around with the html stuff in "templates" or "settings" or something, can't remember which, and ended up altering some of the graphics so badly, and didn't know how to undo the changes! So in the end, the blog looked rather silly and since I couldn't do anything to amend that, I just chose a different layout altogether....made me feel a little sad because I really liked the other layout, with it's mysterious murky green background colour, strange bracketty decorations...and now I'm stuck with this one, which isn't TOO bad, but not something that I'm really comfortable with.

Still, I guess that's what comes from messing around without any idea of what you're doing!!

What I actually came online to write about, is my trip to Kuching, Sarawak
I went there earlier this month, for the annual Rainforest Worl Music Festival, which takes place against the lush backdrop of rainforests, under the watchful gaze of Mount Santubong....it was an out-of-this-world experience!
4 days and 3 nights of relaxing, walking on the beach, listening to drumbeats, cymbals, flutes, guitars, and a whole host of other un-nameable instruments from around the globe, not to mention some interesting vocals! The throat singers from Central Asia were unbelievable! They have this method of singing, by which they actually produce two seperate notes at the same time - one high pitched, and one guttural. It was intriguing! At the concert, they mixed their traditional throat singing with some electronic music mixed by a Russian musician and although it sounded breath-taking and sent my pulse racing there, when I bought a copy of the cd and listened to it here, at home, it just sounded, well, noisy..what a pity...

But on the whole, it was an experience well-worth the planning and the expense and I'd love to do it again next year!! Oh and did I mention that we stayed in a treehouse which was about 2 storeys high, set on a wooden platform among trees, at the edge of the rainforest, overlooking the sea?! The sunsets were spectacular and sitting outside on the verandah, watching the sea and its various moods, was soothing...sitting there, watching nature, listening to the crickets, the birds, watching the sun dip lower and lower into the horizon, throwing different hues onto the calm water..the play of light on water holds me spellbound.

I will go back. Of that I'm sure.

Experiences like these make me wonder...how many more are out there, waiting to be discovered by me...how many things I haven't done, places I haven't seen, cuisines I haven't sampled...there's a whole myriad of experiences, waiting to be explored!
