A Little down in the dumps... Documenting abuse is draining at best and downright depressing most of the time. The type of scumbags I hear about and the human being, drained of every vestige of self worth and defined by violence, I work with, drain me equally.

I'd always known this existed..the dark side of humanity. But it's when you deal with the victims of violence everyday, and reality stands up and slaps you in the face that you begin to understand it.

Some days, I feel I'm still reeling from the shock.
To remember... just something I read somewhere and want to remember...
"Indication of harm and not proof of harm is our call to action"

So true for those of us who are direct service providers. And I'm so glad that the police force has begun to see things this way as well.

A Little bit of this...a little bit of that.... For some reason, I've lost any motivation I might have previously had, to work and to blog! Perhaps it's the change in weather, changes in my life...I don't really know...

One good thing is that I've gotten back in touch with some old friends - it's not that i ever thought we'd lose touch, it's just that we hadn't spoken in ages. I love the way it's always the same, when we eventually do get round to chatting and catching up on each other's lives...it's like some things don't change...while we've probably all changed, grown from certain experiences, developed in ways we never imagined possible, the way we relate to one another has remained the same. And for that, I'm grateful.

There are still other friends I need to get back in touch with, but I'm sure that'll happen soon enough.

Things are changing in my life...huge, big, leapfrog changes. But all for the better. Someday, I'll blog about them, but now's not the time. Perhaps I'm being superstitious, perhaps I'm a bit paranoid, maybe I'm just plain lazy, or perhaps I just want to tell the 2 and 1/2 ppl who still read my blog, in person. Or perhaps it's a combination of them all. Who knows.

I've managed to do a decent amount of work today and will do more tomorrow. Despite my lack of motivation of late, i'm always hopeful about the next day. I'm always convinced that tomorrow will be the day that I work from the minute I get into to work till I get out. I'm constantly amazed at my optimism!

Anyway, I'm off soon, to stop by Irma's (she's the sweetest) and return her toolkit, and then I'm off home. And tonight, I will watch my first episode of Desperate Housewives since I left Palmy, over 9 months back. Yes, people, we bought a tv yesterday :)

Hello, and welcome to my very own little cyber-space. This blogspot is going to be a virtual diary, filled with thoughts, anecdotes or sayings that I might have read from someplace as innocuous as on the backseat of an SBS bus, interesting encounters, experiences, travelogues, I think you get the general idea? This space is MY space and will be filled with anything I'd like to fill it with! So if you think you can handle the nuggets of wisdom embedded in a lot of drivel, please proceed!!

gloria steinem
You are Gloria Steinem. You are the McDonalds(tm)
of liberal feminism, though you used to expouse
some pretty radical ideas, you ended up working
the system. Because it's easier? Maybe. But
thanks for the only mainstream feminist
magazine and for heading one of the most
significant feminist lobbys in the history of
the US. We wouldn't be where we are without NOW
and Ms., as much as some of us are loathe to
admit it.

You're Most Like Carrie! You are a balance between
all your friends, incorporating both cynicism
and optimism into the group. You're uniqe, and
never want to betray that about yourself. You
will never stop looking for answers, but you
don't let that get in the way of living life.
You know when to reserved, and when to be
daring. Most of all, you're fun and
charasmatic!
