Not too sure what to call this one..it's a hotch-potch entry really...
As i re-read my previous entries, it strikes me that the way I feel about things change pretty quickly. Somehow this doesn't seem like too good a thing, but i'm also not too sure if it's really bad. It's a little confusing.
The people I felt so strongly about not too long ago are barely part of my life today. Perhaps it's coz I'm on holiday, i'm not sure. But when I look back at incidents and people that affected me so greatly just 2 months back, I find I look upon them with a sense of detachment, a certain distance. Now this doesn't really bother me or worry me, it just puzzles me. How is it that something or someone has the ability to elicit such deep-seated emotional responses from me at a particular time and then, 2 months down the road, I find I've moved on and am not really bothered anymore? Is that weird?
I'm loving being on holiday and not having anything in particular to do or take care of or worry about. It's a great feeling, espeically after a trying year. It's also gratifying to know that I pulled through a tough year - slacked through part of it and slogged double-time through the rest. And through it all, we've had fun.
There were the dances for the International Fest, the dance-drama we choreographed and performed in for the Arts Fest, the weeklong campaigning, working hard on writing speeches, designing posters, crafting the campaign and eventually winning. The sat nite parties liberally sprinkled through the year, the evenings and whole days of dumb charades in English and Hindi, the nights of Cranium and Taboo, communal cooking sessions combined with Antaakshri (which I've improved at - by leaps and bounds no less!), Diwali fireworks as a break from cramming for exams, Rekha's surprise Sangeet and all the surreptitious planning it involved, sober nights with Jagjit Singh, walking over at a whim to Erin's, hanging out with the Hereford St gang, Tuesday movie nights with Erin, Monday lunches with her right after writing notes to each other through our Research lecture (that took me right back to primary school and passing notes!), coffees and chats with friends, long solitary walks into town for a quick cuppa, armed with good music and a novel, playing cricket and football in the garden, drives around palmy, to the gorgeous gorge and to Hastings, the dicsovery much later in the year of the river that runs behind the house and walks to it with the flatmates, guests arriving at 4am and staying with us over the weekend, dance practices and subsequent re-enactments of the funny moments for friends who'd missed the fun, clothes shopping and impromptu fashion shows at home, the birth of the ipod and its music quiz, the inauguration of the handycam, trips to Auckland and Wellington, driving practices, dinner parties, Sunday mornings at the flea market, sunday afternoon strolls around town, the one-month stint at Pak n Save....and oh so many more!
Doesn't sound like a particularly trying year does it? But that's the tricky thing about memories, isn't it? You tend to live up the best bits and underplay the worst. Or at least that's the way my memory works. With this year, however, I remember the rest too, I'd just rather now put it down here. Blogging definitely has its limitations... but I'd like ot be able to get over the not-so-pleasant past and live in the rosy present. Maybe that's partly why I'm dwelling on the pleasant tonite....things are rather rosy right now.
And on that happy note, I think I'll go to bed now.
