Anaamika - The Nameless One

Oh Good Lord! I just realised that my last post was on Dec 11th last year (coincidentally, my parents' wedding anniversary!) and SO much has happened since then! I doubt I'll be able to do a summary right now as even that would take hours, if not days....but I'll try nevertheless...just a quick one...

So on Dec 22nd, 8 of us left Wellington, on an extremely rocky ferry, to the famed South Island. Filled with hope and brimming with excitement, I ran about, albeit stupidly, the ferry, swaying on my feet like a drunkard and enjoying every minute of it - till good friends started feeling nauseous and throwing up into barf bags all over the place. Then, all of a sudden, it wasn't that much fun anymore.

The South Island was truly breathtaking. If I figure out how to upload pics here, I will. At some point. Don't hold your breath hehe! There were 2 lakes - Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki - that made me feel as though I had stepped into a postcard. Such perfection was difficult to comprehend. I finally understood the expression "it blew my mind."

Milford Sounds and the Te Anau glow worm caves were another favourite. The splendid serenity of both places was something else. I find myself running out of superlatives to describe them. You just had to be there. Here's something that tickled me at the glowworm exhibition place that we went to for free coffee (yaay) after exploring the caves: I wish I was a glowworm, coz a glowworm's never glum. For how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out of your bum?

I laughed so hard and immediately whipped out my phone, saved it as a message and then texted it to my mum!

So we got back to reality in the first week of Jan and then it's been work, full steam ahead till Feb 2nd, when Vikram left for India and mummy landed in NZ - all on the same day. It's been lovely having mummy here, just to chat with, to know that someone's home when you crawl back after a tough day, dead beat and hungry, oftentimes disappointed in humanity after a particularly trying case - it's been good to have her here. She leaves the day after tomorrow, which is very difficult, but I know I'll get through it. She's been instrumental in the way I see myself and thanks to her, my self-esteem has grown over the years. I owe so much to her that that would warrant a post in itself!

On the work-front, things are looking up and it looks as though the 7 months of hard work will pay off. I'll leave it at that for now, lest I jinx things somehow...

Oh I forgot about my birthday tucked somewhere in the middle - I had a lovely time as mummy and I whisked ourselves away to palmy and welly after an especially trying week (our first national audit at work)- partly to show mummy around the city I spent much of my time in NZ in, my uni campus, NZ's capital city and for her to meet all my friends, but also partly as a bday treat from mummy to me, altho she did give me a lovely card and abday present as well! It was a delightful trip and now that i'm back, i miss the friends quite a bit and have realised that it is actually rather lonely here in Tauranga. Thankfully vikram's not too far away...if it hadn't been for him coming over during weekends, things might have been rather bleak.......

Anyway, I think I'll end here for now..so till the next time, cheerio!
Hello, and welcome to my very own little cyber-space. This blogspot is going to be a virtual diary, filled with thoughts, anecdotes or sayings that I might have read from someplace as innocuous as on the backseat of an SBS bus, interesting encounters, experiences, travelogues, I think you get the general idea? This space is MY space and will be filled with anything I'd like to fill it with! So if you think you can handle the nuggets of wisdom embedded in a lot of drivel, please proceed!!

You are Gloria Steinem. You are the McDonalds(tm)
of liberal feminism, though you used to expouse
some pretty radical ideas, you ended up working
the system. Because it's easier? Maybe. But
thanks for the only mainstream feminist
magazine and for heading one of the most
significant feminist lobbys in the history of
the US. We wouldn't be where we are without NOW
and Ms., as much as some of us are loathe to
admit it.
